Rewan ("we", "us") operates the Rewan app, a local discovery app for Kurdistan. This policy explains what information the app handles and why. It is provided in English only.
Rewan does not require you to sign up or log in. We do not collect your name, email address, or phone number to use the app.
If you grant location permission, your device location is used to sort places by distance and show what's nearby. Straight-line distances are calculated entirely on your device. When the app shows a driving distance (for example, in "Open Now Near You"), your coordinates and the coordinates of nearby places are sent to OpenRouteService, a third-party routing provider, solely to calculate that distance — no other information is sent to them. Your location is never sent to Rewan's own servers.
Places and offers you save are stored only on your device (local app storage). They are never uploaded to our servers.
Rewan records a small number of anonymous usage events — for example, that an offer was viewed, or that a call, WhatsApp, Instagram, or directions button was tapped for a place — so we can show businesses aggregate interest in their listing. These events are tied to the place or offer involved, not to you personally, and are never linked to your name or contact details.
If you redeem an offer in the app, your device is issued an anonymous identifier (not linked to your name or contact details). Together with a redemption code and timestamps, this identifier is stored so the business can verify the redemption and so the same offer can't be redeemed twice from the same device.
If you report an issue with a place, or send app feedback from Settings, we store your submission so our team can act on it: the issue type or star rating, the optional message you write, and an anonymous device identifier (not linked to your name or contact details). App feedback also records your app version, device platform, selected language, and selected city, which helps us reproduce problems. These submissions are private to the Rewan team — they are never published in the app, shown to businesses, or used as public reviews or ratings. Because the message box is free text, please don't type personal information such as your name, phone number, or address into it: we don't ask for it and don't need it to act on what you tell us.
Your selected language and whether you've completed onboarding are stored only on your device.
If you turn on notifications, your device is issued an anonymous push token, which we store (along with your device platform — iOS or Android) so we can send you notifications about offers and updates. This token is not linked to your name or any other identity, and it is deleted from our records if you turn notifications back off.
When you ask Rewan AI a question — by typing or by using the microphone — your message (including the audio recording, for voice questions) is sent to Google's Gemini AI service to generate a response and, for voice, a transcript. This is the one point where your input leaves Rewan and is processed by a third party; it is subject to Google's own privacy practices for its API services. We do not use your Rewan AI questions for advertising.
Supabase hosts our place and offer catalogue, anonymous push tokens, anonymous usage events, offer redemption records, and the reports and feedback you send us. Expo's push notification service delivers notifications to your device. Google's Gemini API powers Rewan AI, as described above. OpenRouteService calculates driving distances, as described above. None of these services receive your name or contact details from us, because we never collect them in the first place.
Local data (saved places, language preference, onboarding status) stays on your device until you clear the app's storage or uninstall it. Push tokens are removed from our records when you disable notifications. Anonymous usage events and offer redemption records are retained for business reporting and fraud-prevention purposes and are not linked to your identity. Reports and feedback you send us are kept while we investigate and for a reasonable period afterwards so we can spot recurring problems; because they are anonymous, we generally cannot link a submission back to you, which also means we may be unable to identify and delete a specific one on request. We do not sell your data.
Rewan is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
You can allow or deny location and notification permissions at any time from your device Settings. You can remove saved places or offers at any time inside the app. You can simply not use the microphone or chat features if you'd rather not send anything to Rewan AI. Reporting a place issue and sending app feedback are always optional, and so is the message box in each — you can send a rating with no written message at all.
We take reasonable measures to protect the limited data described above, but no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
We may update this policy as the app changes. Continuing to use Rewan after an update means you accept the revised policy.
